The skill point system in Solar Echoes gives you 7 points to invest at each character level. Skill points must be spread around because you can never have more points in a skill than your current level. This facilitates the design of characters with diverse skill-sets, so even a small team of 3 players can have all bases covered. After rolling a skill check, the highest die roll is added to the number of ranks you have in a skill.
